PUBLIC EDUCATION ACTION ALERT!
Wisconsin Public Education Network partners joined Governor Tony Evers, Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes, and Superintendent of Public Instruction Carolyn Stanford Taylor at the Capitol today to applaud a common sense proposal that would restore some of the most critical aid cut from the 2019-2021 education budget while providing property tax relief.
We thank Governor Evers for calling this special session on education and call for bipartisan support of these modest asks that would help meet mental health needs, help close the billion-dollar-a-year special education funding gap, and provide rural schools the sparsity aid. These proposals would reduce property taxes AND provide spendable aid NOW for districts to use how they need to most.
TAKE ACTION! THE SPECIAL SESSION IS SET FOR TUESDAY, FEB. 11. HERE ARE THE TWO THINGS YOU CAN DO TO HELP:
- Share your thanks. Let the Governor know you appreciate this proposal! Office line: 608-266-1212.
- Make it local. Let your lawmakers know WHY this proposal matters to local kids. What are the priority needs in your district that this aid would help address NOW? How would kids in local classrooms be impacted by this investment? Be specific, and help decision-makers understand that this is not a time to play politics but a time to provide critical support for our children, who cannot afford to wait another two years for us to invest in their success!
